Kyoto Kurotani Special Parasol "Jade"
Kyoto "Kurotani Washi" x Kyoto "Wagasa-ya Tsujikura"
Traditional crafts that have been protected and nurtured throughout a long history.
Kurotani Washi, a papermaking village in Ayabe, Kyoto, is a very rare type of washi paper, each and every sheet of which is handmade by artisans.
It is characterized by its durability and long life, and can withstand long-term storage, so it is also used in the restoration of cultural properties.
This rare Kurotani Unryu paper was used to make paper specifically for Tsujikura's Japanese umbrellas.
We use all natural ingredients, from raw materials to production, with a focus on authenticity.
It's not just glamorous.
This is an exquisite item that you will want to hold in your hands and feel the long story that goes into its creation.
■Kyoto Kurotani Special Parasol "Jade"
"Jade" is a Japanese parasol with a transparent pale yellow-green color.
For the washi paper, we use Yoikudo paper.
Yoikudo paper contains small amounts of the outer skin remaining on the surface as well as mulberry fibers that have not been completely extracted, giving it a texture and a different appearance to Unryu paper.
The Japanese paper used for the light blue color is Kurotani's "Yoikudo Japanese paper."
In the process of making washi paper, after the paper mulberry is boiled, the "amahada" parts that fall off from the white skin during the dusting process collect at the bottom.
The material that accumulates at the bottom is called "Yoikudo." Yoikudo contains the skin that remains on the surface and the mulberry fibers that were not completely removed, and when made into washi paper, it shows a different appearance to Unryu paper.
It is not possible to produce a large amount of Yoikudo at once; rather, the materials are stored and only made when a certain amount has been collected, making this a precious type of washi paper.
We will deliver the finest products from "Kyoto Kurotani Washi" and "Kyoto Wagasa-ya Tsujikura."
