Specially selected snake eye pattern

– The origin of the snake eye pattern –

The snake-eye pattern came to be called a snake-eye umbrella because the white rings look like snake eyes.
The Japanese umbrella itself has the meaning of warding off evil, but the snake eye pattern is said to "protect from disaster and bring good fortune."

- As a gift for celebrations -

At important turning points in life, such as the Shichigosan festival, coming-of-age ceremonies, and weddings, people pray for a happy life, avoiding misfortune.
With the hope that she would be able to marry someone who would be happy, a snake-eye umbrella was given as part of her dowry.

This design has been popular since ancient times, as can be seen in the many ukiyo-e paintings of beautiful women holding snake-eye patterned umbrellas.
Tsujikura's janome pattern includes janome patterns with white rings, as well as janome patterns that combine various colors.

– About Japanese umbrellas –

The handle is made of wood or black bamboo, and the part that holds the umbrella is made of wood, reviving the traditional specifications of Japanese umbrellas.
The lacquer applied to the ribs of the umbrellas is not only the glossy lacquer that has been used up until now, but there are also products with a matte lacquer finish.

The matte texture gives it a deep, calm look, enhancing the stylish appearance when the umbrella is opened.
Tsujikura has preserved the traditional snake eye pattern that has been passed down from his predecessors while breathing new life into it.

- Traditional craftsmanship -

The snake eye pattern requires an extremely difficult process of cutting Japanese paper into a circle and pasting it together in three layers.

Although the snake eye pattern is a classic design, it can only be beautifully finished with the skills of an experienced craftsman.
