Sun-drying

- Everyday at the workshop -
The work we will introduce today is "sun-drying.
Unlike parasols, janomegasa and bangasa are waterproofed by applying vegetable oil to Japanese paper so that they can be used in the rain or snow. To dry this oil naturally, they are “sun-dried”.
The drying period is usually three days in summer and one week in winter, but it must be adjusted according to the weather and wind conditions.
After “sun-drying,” the oil dries thoroughly, giving the wagasa a beautiful luster and unique texture.
