In the process of making Japanese umbrellas, we do a step called "making glue."
To attach the washi paper to the bamboo frame, a glue is made from natural ingredients such as tapioca flour, water, and persimmon tannins.

Persimmon tannin has antiseptic, insect repellent and adhesive properties.
The amount of water is also changed depending on the season to create a glue suitable for making Japanese umbrellas.
It is a time-consuming process that requires careful mixing using a mortar and pestle, but it has stronger adhesive power than commercially available glue and can adhere firmly.
