~rainy season~

With the season of fresh greenery over, Kyoto is fast approaching the rainy season.
The water is drained into the rice fields, and as the sun goes down you can hear the sounds of frogs croaking.

In Japan, it rains a lot from June to July.
There are several theories about the origin of the kanji for "rainy season," including that it came to be called "tsuyu" because dew forms on the trees, and that it comes from "tsuyu," which means "crushed water," because it is the time when plums ripen and collapse.

The rainy season can be humid and sticky, but because rice cultivation in Japan requires a large amount of water, this period is also a blessing as it brings rain that promotes the growth of rice seedlings after they are planted.

At our store, we often hear customers say, "I'm looking forward to rainy days," and although it's a time of year when moods can be quite depressing, why not look forward to the rainy season with a colorful Japanese umbrella?
