Kyoto is bathed in the pink of cherry blossoms. I visited the Philosopher's Path to take photos of Japanese umbrellas.
Selected as one of the 100 best roads in Japan, the Philosopher's Path is a walking path that runs along the waterfront of the Lake Biwa canal from Ginkakuji Temple to the Eikando Temple area.
It is said that the path came to be known as "Philosopher's Path" because the philosopher Nishida Ikutaro enjoyed walking there and meditating.
The cherry blossoms along the Philosopher's Path are said to have begun in 1921 (Taisho 12), when the Japanese painter Kansetsu Hashimoto, who lived nearby, decided to donate 300 cherry tree seedlings to the city of Kyoto as a way of repaying his debt of gratitude after achieving great success as an artist.
Since then, the area has been maintained and replanted, and now there are over 400 cherry trees lined up here, known as "Sekiyukizakura."
Cherry blossoms in full bloom on both sides of the canal.
Walk along the Philosopher's Path and look up at the long tunnel of cherry blossoms.
When I move my eyes to follow the fluttering cherry blossom petals,
Petals float and flow all over the canal.
There was a beautiful flower raft dyed in the pink of cherry blossoms.
Blue sky, cherry blossoms, and Japanese umbrellas.
It was spring and a gentle breeze was blowing.
